Former President Goodluck Jonathan is set to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.<\/p>\n
This was confirmed by Professor Jerry Gana, erstwhile information minister and member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).<\/p>\n
He made the disclosure during election of new executive members of the Niger State Working Committee (SWC) in Minna, Niger State, during which Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Halidu emerged as the new chairman.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can confirm that Goodluck Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as a PDP candidate and you will vote for him to return as president again. Former president, Goodluck Jonathan, is ready to return as Nigeria\u2019s president again in 2027,\u201d Gana told journalists after the congress.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn 2015, Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years and now another has ruled for two years. Nigerians have seen the difference and the difference is very clear. Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Jonathan.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe PDP has tremendous opportunity in 2027 because it is truly a grassroots party.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gana noted that Nigerians love the PDP.<\/p>\n
\u201cNigerians love the PDP because it came with programmes that are people-oriented. That is why they remember PDP immensely and they are urging us to come back.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the crisis bedeviling the party, the former minister dismissed it as a non-issue, which had been resolved.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen there was a near crisis in the party, the founding fathers convened a consultative conference in Abuja and addressed all those issues at that time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He deplored the government’s failure to attract foreign investors.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis government has a number of evil gatekeepers, keeping away foreign investors. That\u2019s their major problem. Nigeria is the best place to grow your money.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new chairman, Halidu, emerged as the winner with 1, 289 votes, beating Yahaya Abdullahi, who secured 1, 269 votes to the second position.<\/p>\n
Tanimu Turaki, the Chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee, explained that only eight positions were contested for, while others were unopposed.<\/p>\n
Hadi Kuta was declared as the state secretary of the party unopposed while Salomi Ndakosu won the Women Leader\u2019s position with 1, 373 votes. She defeated Ramotu Jibrin, who polled 590 votes.<\/p>\n
Halidu, in his acceptance speech, the party is strong in population at the grassroots and expressed optimism that the PDP would return to power in 2027.<\/p>\n
\u201cPDP is ready to dislodge the ruling party in 2027. I, therefore, implore members to join hands in ensuring the return of the people-oriented government in 2027,\u201d the new chairman said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
