Two persons were reportedly feared killed on Saturday when the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, DICON, in Kaduna, was rocked by massive explosions, which also left several others injured.<\/p>\n
It was gathered that the blast occurred during the controlled disposal of expired gunpowder materials at the factory\u2019s ordinance disposal pit in Kurmin Gwari, shaking surrounding buildings, shattering glass windows and causing panic among the residents.<\/p>\n
Although two people were reportedly killed in the explosions a statement signed by Maria Sambo, the corporation’s spokesperson, said only one person died, adding, however, that several people were injured.<\/p>\n
According to her, DICON had commenced efforts to dispose of the expired items since July 2025.<\/p>\n
By September, most of the materials especially the Ammonia Nitrates had already been destroyed in controlled operations. Unfortunately, the accident occurred while experts were concluding the destruction of the remaining stock.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne person died in the incident while several others sustained injuries. The injured staff are currently receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna, while the body of the deceased personnel has been deposited at the mortuary,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
The corporation condoled with families of the deceased while wishing the injured, who sources said were first rushed to St. Gerard Catholic Hospital, Kakuri, before military ambulances later transferred them to 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna metropolis, speedy recovery.<\/p>\n
It further assured the public that the situation was under control and that there was no need for panic.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe neighbouring community is assured that DICON, as a responsible professional organisation, has institutionalised operational safety to the highest level, and they can go about their normal business.
