{"id":7444,"date":"2025-08-24T21:54:41","date_gmt":"2025-08-24T21:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/?p=7444"},"modified":"2025-08-24T21:55:18","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T21:55:18","slug":"7444","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/index.php\/2025\/08\/24\/7444\/","title":{"rendered":"6 dead, 3 missing in fresh boat mishap in Sokoto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/images-4-1-300x191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"191\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7445\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/images-4-1-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/images-4-1.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\nBy James<br \/>\nKindly share:<\/p>\n<p>Another fatal boat mishap has occurred at Faji community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, leaving six persons dead and three missing.<br \/>\nThe National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Area Manager in Sokoto, Mr Bala Bello, confirmed on Sunday in Sokoto that six persons died, 19 survivors were rescued while three people were still missing in the fresh mishap<br \/>\nBello, who said the incident occurred on August 22, attributed it to negligence, canoe overloading and safety rules violation.<br \/>\nHe explained that a team of Inspectors, comprising officials from NIWA, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and Red Cross Society had visited the affected community.<br \/>\nBello said the team confirmed the casualty figures while search and rescue operations were ongoing to locate the three missing persons.<br \/>\nThe Area Manager restated that NIWA had been engaging riverine communities on safety measures, guidelines, use of life jackets and other considerations on water usage.<br \/>\nNAN recalled that Sokoto State Government confirmed the death of four passengers, 41 survivors and five\u00a0missing persons in a previous boat mishap on August 17,\u00a0 at Kojiyo village in Goronyo local government area in the state.<br \/>\nThe unfortunate incident reportedly occurred along the Sokoto Rima River, when the boat conveying the passengers capsized.
