{"id":731,"date":"2024-07-08T14:02:10","date_gmt":"2024-07-08T14:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/?p=731"},"modified":"2024-07-08T14:02:10","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T14:02:10","slug":"police-arrest-178-suspected-cultists-kidnappers-others-in-plateau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/index.php\/2024\/07\/08\/police-arrest-178-suspected-cultists-kidnappers-others-in-plateau\/","title":{"rendered":"Police arrest 178 suspected cultists, kidnappers, others in Plateau"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-732\" src=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/download-9-3-300x201.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/download-9-3-300x201.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/download-9-3.jpeg 332w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0The Police Command in Plateau has arrested 178 suspects over cultist activities, kidnapping, trafficking and unlawful possession of firearms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Emmanuel Adesina, disclosed this at a news conference on Monday in Jos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adesina said that out of the 178 suspects, 118 were arrested on July 7 for cult activities, being their day of celebration and initiation of new members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He said that the remaining 60 were arrested for other crimes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThrough the multi-faceted strategies employed by the command and the prudent utilisation of human and material resources, we have been able to sustain the prevailing peace being experienced today on the Plateau,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The police commissioner said that he had held series of meetings with stakeholders from troubled areas in the state to ensure peaceful co-existence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201dI have emplaced intensive patrol, raiding of criminal hideouts and visibility policing, which has become the hallmark of my policing strategy employed in recording these recent achievements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBased on credible intelligence gathered, I ordered the raiding of an apartment suspected to be a hideout of a cult syndicate. As a result, the command\u2019s Eagle-Eye Patrol Unit (EEPU) arrested these suspects,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adesina said that those arrested over criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, trafficking and causing grievous hurt, among others, were nabbed in the last one month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He further stated that all the suspects were currently under investigation after which they would be charged to court.
