Dele Momodu, ace journalist and chieftain of the opposition coalition had stated his preference of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, to Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The coalition recently adopted the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as its platform on which it would contest and wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and President Bola Tinubu.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
As permutations continue on who, among the gladiators, would fly the coalition’s presidential flag, Momodu has opted for\u00a0 \u00a0Atiku to emerge as the candidate of the party for the 2027 presidential election.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He made his choice known while appearing briefly on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Monday night, saying the APC is already jittery that Atiku’s emergence as ADC candidate will checkmate their chances of winning the election.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Momodu anchored his stance on the clamour by the northern part of the country to reclaim power due to alleged marginalisation of the region by the the current administration under Tinubu.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to him, the North is aggrieved the Tinubu government has sidelined the region despite their numerical advantage during his election, and, therefore, if the ADC fields Atiku, a northerner,\u00a0 as its Presidential candidate, the chances of victory for the coalition would be brighter.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Momodu aldo clarified that he had nothing against Obi, a southerner, positing that no southern candidate has what it takes to wrestle power from Tinubu in 2027.<\/div>\n

\u00a0\u201cMy best choice is Atiku. And that is what I expect Obidients to say, which I expect those who support Amaechi to say,” Momodu said. There\u2019s nothing wrong with that.<\/div>\n

“This game is a game of numbers, and the people who are most aggrieved today are in the northern part of Nigeria<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0\u201cIf you listen to Wike very well, they\u2019ve all been campaigning that the next president should still come from southern Nigeria but they know very well that there\u2019s no Southerner today. The moment they started pushing campaigns of calumny against Atiku, you must know that they feel threatened by Atiku.\u201d<\/div>\n
