Renowned Pentecostal televangelist Jimmy Swaggart has died at the age of 90 after suffering a cardiac arrest. His death was announced on Tuesday via his official Instagram page, which included a heartfelt biblical message from 2 Timothy 4:7\u20138.<\/p>\n

The post read in part: \u201cToday was the day he has sung about for decades. He met his beloved Saviour and entered the portals of glory.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swaggart, who dedicated more than 70 years to preaching the gospel, was a household name in American evangelical circles. Known for his powerful sermons, musical ministry, and expansive television reach, Swaggart touched millions globally with his message of salvation through Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n

Born on March 15, 1935, in Ferriday, Louisiana, Swaggart felt called to ministry at the age of eight. He married Frances Anderson in 1952, and the couple had one son, Donnie Swaggart.<\/p>\n

Ordained by the Assemblies of God in 1961, Swaggart launched a radio program, The Campmeeting Hour, in 1969, followed by a religious magazine and later a television ministry. His broadcasts reached international audiences, and in 1987, he held a massive crusade in Brazil attended by over 100,000 people.<\/p>\n

Swaggart was also a talented gospel musician, selling over 17 million albums. He was a cousin to music legend Jerry Lee Lewis.<\/p>\n

Despite facing scandals in the late 1980s, Swaggart remained active in ministry and maintained a loyal following.<\/p>\n

He is survived by his wife, Frances, their son Donnie, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n
