A group of Igbo women at the weekend pledged their commitment to serving the cause of humanity.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Operating under the aegis of Odinma Umuada Igbo Prestigious Women Foundation, the group, during its official inauguration, vowed to continuously render humanitarian services across the country.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Mrs Violet Obiora, the Founder and President of the Foundation, made the pledge at the Grand Rollout and Public Awareness programme of the foundation in Lagos.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Obiora said the Foundation was formed in recognition of the necessity for collective responsibility and the need to uplift one another.<\/div>\n

She said the Foundation would focus on restoring hope to the less-privileged and\u00a0 provide a platform for those with resources and ideas to make a meaningful impact in supporting others to rise.<\/div>\n

Highlighting some of the Foundation’s achievements during her tenure as the women leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State, Obiora noted that among other things, the group created a memorable identity for Ohanaeze through the production of a special outfit, which was adopted by other states nationwide.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to her, the Foundation also\u00a0 extended joy and support to indigent women and children as well as provided resources for setting up a befitting state secretariat for Ohanaeze in Lagos.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Obiora further disclosed that for the next one year, the Foundation had set some priorities, such as the continuous expansion of services to reach more beneficiaries, and prison visitation programmes.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cThe Foundation has been privileged to support several beneficiaries, including Pacelli School for the Blind, Heart of Gold Orphanage Home and indigent women and children selected from various local governments in Lagos,” Obiora said.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cOur priorities for the next one year include hospital and prison visitation programmes to provide support to women who have been unjustly imprisoned.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cInitiatives to remove about 100 child-hawkers from the streets of Lagos and return them to school, as well as programmes to support women in their petty trades.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Mrs Ada Ofoegbu, the Chairperson, Organising Planning Committee, in her speech, said the Foundation was ready to empower the indigent citizens in the society.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
She expressed appreciation to all the participants of the event, including the donors, awardees and stakeholders of the Foundation for their unwavering support.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Ofoegbu disclosed that no fewer that 10 women and men would be empowered with cash grants to aid their businesses in the course of the event.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cThank you all for the unwavering support, trust and commitment; your collective efforts have made this programme a testament to the power of collaboration and community,” she said.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cTogether we\u2019ve achieved something truly remarkable and we look forward to continuing our journey together.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In her goodwill message, Mrs Chika Ashara, the Vice-Chairman, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area,\u00a0 congratulated the foundation for its achievements and efforts in impact lives positively.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Similarly, Ashara, one of the Phenomenal Ladies of the Foundation, promised that she would continue to supporting the group to ensure its progress and sustenance.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The event featured inauguration of the foundation\u2019s Exco, patrons, stakeholders and Phenomenal Ladies, as well as empowerment of many women with cash grant.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Posthumous award was also presented to the late Sen. Ifeanyi Uba. Other outstanding personalities, including the President of Aspamda, Mr Ngozi Emechebe, were presented\u00a0 with awards.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Other awardees were the Executive Director, Edison Obiora Communication Enterprise, Mr Edwin Obiora; the Ezechimelu Ezeigbo Badagry, Mr Eze Sunday and the Ide Anambra, Mr Ralph Ezeokoli, among others.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Among the people, who made history in the Foundation, was Prince Chinedu jude OkwuosA (Nwachinagbaiguogu Na Nnewi).<\/div>\n
