It will not be remembered for sterling performances or record-breaking scores. No. It will be remembered for tears, tragedy, technical failures, and the weeping wail of one distinguished professor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a country where backup generators outnumber working policies, and the most advanced national tech is the WhatsApp broadcast, JAMB 2025 pulled off the impossible: It glitched harder than INEC. And that\u2019s saying a lot for a country that once livestreamed electoral results directly into the abyss.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For those just tuning in, JAMB, our national sorting hat for university admissions, managed to convert what should\u2019ve been a straightforward CBT exam into a dystopian tech-comedy nobody auditioned for.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The servers choked. The systems coughed. The candidates cried.<br \/>\nAnd then&#8230; the Registrar cried too.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It all began like it always does for\u00a0<strong>JAMB, Nigeria\u2019s Annual Hunger Games;\u00a0<\/strong>millions of students, freshly bathed in anxiety, showed up at CBT centres armed with God, biro, and biometric faith. But what they got was a practical lesson in digital nihilism.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>And then came the weeping professor.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enter the man of the hour: Professor Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar and custodian of the great exam scrolls. A man once feared and admired in equal measure, known for digitalising JAMB and reducing malpractice during his tenure.\u00a0Respected academic, reformist, and, apparently, human after all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a rare public display of emotion, the Registrar wept while addressing the press.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a widely circulated video, the good professor, usually stoic like a carved statue from Ile-Ife, was seen crying during a press briefing. Not just moist-eyed. Full on weeping. The man who once made students quake with mere circulars was reduced to sniffles and tissues.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI am pained&#8230; these are innocent children,\u201d he said. \u201cThe systems failed them. The vendors failed us. Nigeria failed them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Touching, yes. But also a bit like crying at a fire you helped start by outsourcing your CBT to a cybercaf\u00e9 with one UPS and two prayers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sympathy poured in. But so did sarcasm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People questioned the use of tears after the house had already burnt down. A cheeky X (formerly Twitter),\u00a0now permanently known as Chaos) quipped:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>&#8220;Oga, na wetin be this? Crying doesn\u2019t bring back the CBT server.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u00a0\u201cSir, are the tears Bluetooth-compatible? Maybe the servers can download empathy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u00a0\u201cThis year\u2019s JAMB: Powered by diesel, despair, and duct tape.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cJAMB should be renamed JOKE Admission Board.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cOloyede cried, but our future cried harder.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cGlitches don\u2019t kill dreams. Glitches\u00a0<\/em><em>facilitated by JAMB<\/em><em>\u00a0kill dreams.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The comments kept pouring in.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oloyede\u2019s tears became a meme. The only thing running smoothly in this exam was public mockery<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The comedy curdled into tragedy when news broke that a young girl in Delta State, devastated by a poor score she believed was due to technical failure, took her own life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A straight-A student. Meticulous. Hopeful. And failed by a system that couldn\u2019t differentiate between a child and a CAPTCHA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to family members, her preparations were intense, her hope was high, and her belief in the system was, tragically, misplaced.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her passing sent shockwaves through the nation. For a country used to pain, this was a punch in the gut. One that revealed not only systemic failure, but societal pressure so intense that one bad exam result could end a life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And how did JAMB respond? It\u00a0released a brief robotic condolence statement. There were no resignations. No inquiries. Just another bullet point on Nigeria\u2019s long list of preventable deaths.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A brief condolence message buried under a press release about upcoming exam rewrites.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JAMB\u2019s solution? Invite the traumatised to\u00a0<em>relive the trauma.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thousands of candidates were summoned to rewrite exams, many with less than 24 hours\u2019 notice. Imagine surviving a plane crash and being told to reboard, with the same airline, same pilot, same thunderstorm. \u201cTrust us, this time we fixed the wing with duct tape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But let\u2019s be clear; this wasn\u2019t a rewrite in the traditional sense. This was a psychological warfare mission, a PTSD refresher course.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine a child who sat through an exam where the mouse didn\u2019t work, the screen froze, and the invigilator told them to &#8220;imagine the questions in their head.&#8221; Now imagine telling that child to redo the whole thing with the same organisation in charge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some students reportedly broke down during the rewrites. Others walked into centres only to face\u00a0<em>another<\/em>\u00a0round of glitches. It was like asking survivors of a shipwreck to board the same boat again, this time with promises that the iceberg had been &#8220;patched.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To add spice to the digital carnage, the Minister of Education, let\u2019s call him Professor Spokescript Oluremi Adebambo, gave a press conference that sounded like it was written by a broken typewriter and edited by denial. He gloated over the performance and blamed the hapless, voiceless students for the debacle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are proud of the exercise,\u201d he added, chin raised high. \u201cThe glitches were minimal. They build resilience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are proud of this year&#8217;s JAMB. The process has been seamless,\u201d he declared confidently, as generators exploded in the background and students wailed into the wind. \u201cWe commend Prof. Oloyede for his efforts. Any issues are the work of saboteurs. Or the opposition. Or maybe termites,\u201d he added hastily, without any scintilla of proof.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resilience. The national excuse for every institutional failure. We\u2019ve turned suffering into pedagogy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sir, if trauma built resilience, Nigerians would be Wolverine by now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When journalists asked about candidates being asked to resit exams due to system errors, the minister replied: \u201cThis is good for their character development. Trauma is part of the learning curve.\u201d However, he later walked back the statement after social media cooked him like\u00a0<em>ogbono<\/em>\u00a0soup without crayfish.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This ministerial masterstroke was only rivaled by\u00a0Independent National Electoral Commission\u2019s\u00a0(INEC) Mahmood Yakubu in 2023, who proudly declared the elections &#8220;transparent,&#8221; even as voters watched their results disappear into the Bermuda Triangle of the IReV portal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To fully appreciate the disaster that was JAMB 2025, one must remember the 2023 Nigerian general elections. Ah, yes, that festival of thumbprints and broken promises, where INEC proudly unveiled its shiny new BVAS (Bimodal Voter Accreditation System), only for it to perform worse than a candle in a hurricane.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On that Election Day, voters queued in the sun for hours, only for servers to \u201cglitch\u201d like a Nollywood ghost possessed their modems. Election results uploaded themselves to\u00a0<em>heaven<\/em>\u00a0instead of the IReV portal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back then, Nigerians blamed INEC, tech contractors, and spiritual forces. Fast forward two years, and JAMB apparently borrowed INEC\u2019s playbook, complete with malfunctioning servers, nationwide confusion, and the usual comforting excuse: \u201cIt was a technical error.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One X user captured it best: \u201cJAMB must have copied INEC\u2019s operating manual\u2014Ctrl C, Ctrl Glitch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If INEC\u2019s elections were a glitch-fest of democratic destiny, JAMB\u2019s UTME became a remix of that horror show, but with children\u2019s futures on the line instead of ballot papers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s almost as if Nigerian institutions were running a nationwide competition:\u00a0<strong>Who can glitch more efficiently under pressure?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spoiler alert: It\u2019s a tie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s a strange symmetry to it all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>INEC:<\/strong>\u00a0Botched a presidential election with a billion-naira tech that couldn\u2019t upload results.<br \/>\n<strong>JAMB:<\/strong>\u00a0Botched an academic future with a billion-naira tech that couldn\u2019t upload scores.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>INEC\u2019s servers:<\/strong>\u00a0Froze under pressure.<br \/>\n<strong>JAMB\u2019s servers:<\/strong>\u00a0Died on arrival.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>INEC\u2019s reaction:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cTechnical error.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>JAMB\u2019s reaction:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cRewrite.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Public response:<\/strong>\u00a0Memes, rage, hashtags.<br \/>\n<strong>Official response:<\/strong>\u00a0Committees, condolences, confusion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this point, Nigeria may be the only country where digital systems work perfectly until you need them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, in the Real Nigeria, a\u00a0student in Kwara is still waiting for a text, confirming her rewrite date.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another in Benue had to sell his phone to travel for his second exam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Port Harcourt, a candidate swore the CBT centre\u2019s mouse was held together with rubber bands and prayer points.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One boy in Enugu broke down mid-exam and whispered, \u201cGod, just give me fish farming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But don\u2019t worry. According to the Minister, this builds\u00a0<em>character.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>So\u2026 What Now?<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the dust settles, we must ask ourselves: Is this the best we can do?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A country with over 200 million people, many of whom are under the age of 25, cannot afford to treat its premier entrance examination like a poorly rehearsed school play. This isn\u2019t about one man&#8217;s tears or one girl\u2019s tragedy. It\u2019s about a broken system that punishes the hopeful and rewards the incompetent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We don\u2019t need tears. We need accountability.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We don\u2019t need press statements. We need action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And above all, we need a system where a child\u2019s future isn\u2019t decided by whether a computer centre in Benue remembered to pay its NEPA bill.<\/p>\n<h3>JAMB has become a Reality Show, and for next season, we recommend:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Digital Infrastructure Audit<\/strong><strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Stop outsourcing<strong>\u00a0t<\/strong>o vendors who think \u201cserver\u201d is a waiter.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Psychological Support<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Introduce free counseling for candidates before and after exams.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Accountability Measures<\/strong><strong>\u00a0\u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Public blacklisting of centres with poor records. Name them. Shame them.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Ministerial Reboot<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Perhaps, ministers should sit for JAMB too. If they pass, they stay. If not, they go. Fair?<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>National Mourning<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 For the lost lives, lost dreams, and lost data packets.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nigeria, ever the resilient giant, will forget in a week. The tears will dry, the minister will cut another ribbon, and JAMB will prepare for another year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But somewhere in Delta, a family mourns a daughter. Somewhere in Kano, a student who saw three different questions at once is being asked to smile for a rewrite. Somewhere in Abuja, Professor Oloyede is being comforted by staff who whisper, \u201cSir, next time, just blame hackers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And somewhere, in a dank office of the Ministry of Education, another committee is being formed. Because if Nigeria has mastered one thing, it is turning tragedy into bureaucracy, and hoping nobody notices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What happened with JAMB 2025 isn\u2019t just incompetence; it\u2019s elite-level indifference wrapped in bureaucracy and powered by diesel. We have digitised dysfunction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a country overflowing with young talent, coders, thinkers, creators, we somehow manage to make the very act of\u00a0<em>testing them<\/em>\u00a0a national hazard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maybe next year, we can contract JAMB to INEC and just merge the two. One glitch to rule them all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or better yet, send both boards to sit the same CBT. We let them keep their jobs if they pass without a system crash. If not, they can rewrite. In Sokoto. Without Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Na Naija be dis,<\/em>\u00a0where the server always dies and the system is forever \u201crebooting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight:
