The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has attacked suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminilayi Fubara, over the walkout on the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, by some women in Rivers State on Thursday.<\/p>\n

He described the incident as \u201cvery disturbing and embarrassing\u201d and sent a strong message to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his supporters.<\/p>\n

The Rivers women had walked out on the wife of the state’s sole administrator, who had stood in for the First Lady, Remi Tinubu, at during an Empowerment Programme organised by the Nigerian First Lady, Remi Tinubu, in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Renewed Hope Initiative empowerment programme at the EUI Event Centre was organised by the office of the First Lady. It was planned to support 500 women in the state with empowerment items.<\/p>\n

The women who staged the walkout were reportedly loyal to the suspended governor, Fubara.<\/p>\n

\nThey angrily rejected Ibas’ wife and trooped out of the venue, demanding the restoration of suspended Governor Siminilayi Fubara to office.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBring back Fubara,\u201d the women chanted repeatedly.<\/p>\n

Some of the women were heard protesting, saying different things but all booked down to their opposition to the emergency rule.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want Valerie Sim-Fubara or Remi Tinubu to address us, not the wife of Ibas! We want Sim!\u201d one was heard saying.<\/p>\n

Some stated that Ibas’ wife did not have any right\u00a0to address the Rivers women, saying she is a stranger to them.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is a stranger. She does not have the right to address us. Let Fubara\u2019s wife, Lady Valerie Fubara or President Tinubu come and address Rivers\u2019 women. We need our governor back,\u201d she said.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Wike, who is currently on official duty in China, released a statement through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka. In the statement, he apologized to the First Lady and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on behalf of the people of Rivers State.<\/p>\n

\u201cInsult on anyone representing the First Lady of Nigeria in an event is a direct insult on the office of the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and as a leader in Rivers State, I apologize,\u201d he said.Nigerian political art prints<\/p>\n

Angered by the development, Wike accused Fubara of sponsoring the walk out and getting his loyalists to disrespect the President and his wife, despite seeking peace.<\/p><\/div>\n

He urged Fubara to be honest and bold enough to state his demands to President Tinubu categorically rather than saying one thing and doing another.<\/div>\n

\u201cIt is not enough to be visiting people to plead for peace, those who genuinely want peace work and act for it.
\nThese are the same people pleading for peace, but at the same time doing things that are contrary to what they are pleading for,” Wike said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow can you say you want peace and at the same time, you are sponsoring people to insult everyone, including the President and his wife?<\/p>\n

\u201cAll those shenanigans won\u2019t bring peace, and I am sure they know that, because they are not sincere with their up and down pleadings for peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

The minister also absolved himself and his supporters of any involvement in the incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs for me and those who subscribe to my leadership, we condemn in totality that yesterday\u2019s show of shame and we apologise to our First Lady for the embarrassing conduct of those few women who do not represent the characters and ideals of the people of Rivers State.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n
