Tragedy has hit the Abia State Police Command when a police patrol van belonging to Abia State\u2019s joint security task force, Operation Crush, veered plunged into a ditch, kilking one police officer and severely injuring nine others.<\/p>\n

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred, as the vehicle conveying the victims veered off the bad road near Isieke,\u00a0 off the Umuahia-Bende Road.<\/p>\n

A quick intervention by residents and sympathisers rescued the injured personnel, and rushed them to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, for treatment.<\/div>\n
\nAn officer, who initially declared missing after being thrown from the vehicle, was later found alive in the nearby bush.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The vehicle was suspected to have malfunctioned.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Meanwhile, the state government has sent a senior official to visit the injured officers at FMC Umuahia, assuring that the government would support the affected families and personnel.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Governor Alex Otti described the incident as sad and unfortunate.<\/p>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cGovernor Otti while condoling with the Joint Command and the family of the deceased Officer, assured that his government would ensure that the injured ones receive the best of medical attention to ensure they recuperate as quickly as possible,\u201d Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity,\u00a0 said in a statement on Monday.<\/div>\n
