The five South-east governors on Tuesday, played host to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and resolved to meet President Bola Tinubu to press for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Senator Hope Uzodinma, Imo State governor and Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, briefed newsmen after the over seven-hour marathon meeting, during which the governors also set up a burial committee for the late minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Forum commiserates with the family of Ebonyi, Abia, Imo and indeed the entire South East region and the entire family of Ogbonnaya Onu on the demise of His Excellency Dr Ogbonnaya Onu,\u201d Uzodinma said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Forum received a delegation of the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Emeka Anyaoku and His Royal Majesty, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, who came on a solidarity visit to this Forum.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Forum deliberated on the reviewed report of the South-east Security and Economic Summit held in Owerri Imo State on the 28 September 2023 and agreed to implement the aspect of the report about security and economic integration of the South-east region and affirmed its desire to put actionable plan on the key issues agreed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Forum resolved to visit Mr. President to discuss all pressing issues, concerning the South -east region.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Forum also deliberated and resolved to interface with the Federal Government to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The forum named former Senate President, Pius Anyim, as the chairman of Onu’s burial committee, while former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi would serve as secretary.<\/span><\/p>\n

Obasanjo did not entertain questions from newsmen while security agents prevented journalists from taking his photograph.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was gathered, however, that he attended the meeting to parley with the governors on the possible release of Nnamdi Kanu from detention.<\/span><\/p>\n

The IPOB leader has been in detention at the facility of the Department of State Security, DSS, since his rendition from Kenya in June, 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

All efforts to secure his freedom even the courts freed him had met the brick wall.<\/span><\/p>\n

The South-east geopolitical zone had been on the boil, following protests by pro-Biafra agitators for Kanu’s release, including the scorching Monday Sit-at-Home protests, which have been hijacked by hoodlums to wreak havoc in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n
