{"id":5123,"date":"2025-03-16T17:11:40","date_gmt":"2025-03-16T17:11:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/?p=5123"},"modified":"2025-03-16T17:11:40","modified_gmt":"2025-03-16T17:11:40","slug":"girl-16-commits-suicide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/index.php\/2025\/03\/16\/girl-16-commits-suicide\/","title":{"rendered":"Girl, 16, commits suicide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5124\" src=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Screenshot_20250316-152359-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Screenshot_20250316-152359-263x300.jpg 263w, https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Screenshot_20250316-152359.jpg 588w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">By Amah<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Kindly share:<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">A 16-year-old girl, Maryam Samuel, has allegedly committed suicide in the Kaltungo community in Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Maryam was found hanging on a tree with a rope tied to her neck barely 24 hours after she left home to fetch firewood.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Spokesman of the Gombe State Police Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, said the girl committed suicide by hanging on a tree.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Abdullahi explained further that the incident occurred on March 14, barely 24 hours after the deceased left home to fetch firewood.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cOn Friday, at about 9:00 a.m., a case of suicide was reported at Kaltungo Divisional Headquarters by the village head of Kalarin.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cThe deceased, later identified as Maryam Samuel, a 16-year-old girl from Kalarin ward, was seen hanged with rope on a tree near the Kalarin mountain without any marks of violence found on her body,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Abdullahi said the corpse had been deposited at the General Hospital Kaltungo.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The police spokesman said that a preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased left home on Thursday to fetch firewood from the nearby bush, adding that further investigation would unravel the root cause of the incident.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">However, a source close to the deceased\u2019s family alleged that the girl was impregnated by her boyfriend, a development which enraged her parents.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The source said further that during an interaction between the parents and the boyfriend, she was discovered to have been visiting her lover and got pregnant.
