Bala Mohammed, the Bauchi State Governor, has declared his readiness to collaborate with\u00a0 the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, for the good of the country.<\/p>\n

Mohammed made this known when both leaders addressed newsmen on Thursday after a closed-door meeting that\u00a0 lasted over three hours at the state\u2019s \u2018Presidential Lodge\u2019, in Bauchi, the state capital.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The meeting dwelt more in how to tackle poverty and insecurity apart from political, religious, or ethnic divides.\u201cWe discussed state-by-state challenges, and I feel highly appreciative of what he is doing as the leader of the opposition because, whether we like it or not, he is the leader of the opposition now in Nigeria. I want to say at this level, not to make some of those doubting Thomases and mischievous minds pre-empt what we are doing, that I\u2019m ready to work with Peter Obi,” Mohammed said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will make sure we come together, close ranks, bring good governance to the country, and give vibrant opposition with knowledge, timelines, and visions in such a manner that we will rescue and recover our country.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur coming together is a message, and the message is going to resonate because all our colleagues, the PDP governors, are behind this kind of journey because it is a transcendental one. We are coming together to work together irrespective of party, region, religion, or any other thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his part,\u00a0explained that his visit was because of the need to discuss national issues with Mohammed, being a key political figure and Chairman of the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors\u2019 Forum.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just a consultation and discussion meeting that will continue to go on as we talk about the future of this country. We have to discuss issues happening in the North. I have told the governor today that the North is a critical component if we are going to get it right in this country,” Obi said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is poverty in Nigeria. We have to deal with the issue of poverty, and until you solve poverty, then you can talk about criminality.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Obi also described President Bola Tinubu as a promise keeper, sarcastically praising him for doing exactly what he promised Nigerians.<\/div>\n

\u201cTinubu promised to continue where Buhari stopped. If you look at it, Buhari left the dollar at about N400; today, it is about N1,500. Rice was about N40,000; it is now over N100,000. Fuel was about N300; it is now over N1,000. I can go on and on\u2014everything has doubled and tripled.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, he has done exactly as he promised,\u201d Obi remarked.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the former Anambra governor disclosed that Nigeria\u2019s GDP fell from $500 billion to $200 billion, and per capita income dropped from $3,500 to below $2,000.<\/p>\n

He stressed the need\u00a0 for massive investments in key sectors to lift people out of poverty and reduce crime;\u00a0revive the nation\u2019s industries, invest in education and healthcare, and steer the country towards productive governance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
