Andy Ogles, a Republican Congressman, introduced a bill aimed at amending the US Constitution to allow newly sworn in President Donald Trump to run for a third term in office.<\/p>\n

Trump, who was America’s 45th president reemerged after he won last election and took his oath of office in Monday, January 2025.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Constitutionally, under the 22nd Amendment, no individual is entitled for the office of the US President for more than two times.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
However,\u00a0Ogles submitted the resolution on Thursday, arguing that Trump is uniquely capable of addressing the nation\u2019s challenges and restoring its global standing.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cHe has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation\u2019s decay and restoring America to greatness. He must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ogles added, \u201cWe must provide Trump with every resource necessary to correct the disastrous course set by the Biden administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump, who previously dismissed the idea of running for a third term, joked about the possibility after winning the 2024 election, saying, \u201cUnless you say, \u2018he\u2019s so good, we have to just figure it out.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Ogles also praised Trump\u2019s executive orders during his second term, citing actions on border security, energy production, gender identity policies and the withdrawal from the World Health Organisation.<\/p>\n

Although Republicans currently hold a slim majority in the House of Representatives, the proposed amendment would require significant bipartisan support and ratification by three-fourths of the states to become law.<\/p>\n

The 22nd Amendment, which limits presidential terms, was ratified in 1951 following Franklin D. Roosevelt\u2019s unprecedented four terms in office. Roosevelt\u2019s extended tenure, which lasted from 1933 to 1945, prompted concerns about excessive executive power, aligning with George Washington\u2019s precedent of serving only two terms.<\/p><\/div>\n
