{"id":4364,"date":"2025-01-20T20:15:02","date_gmt":"2025-01-20T20:15:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/?p=4364"},"modified":"2025-01-20T20:15:02","modified_gmt":"2025-01-20T20:15:02","slug":"ncc-approves-50-tariff-hike-for-telecoms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/index.php\/2025\/01\/20\/ncc-approves-50-tariff-hike-for-telecoms\/","title":{"rendered":"NCC approves 50% tariff hike for telecoms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4365\" src=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/download-10-1-300x168.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/download-10-1-300x168.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/download-10-1.jpeg 332w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By Publisher<\/p>\n<p>Kindly share:<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has approved the demand of telecom operators to adjust tariff rate in response to rising operational costs.<\/p>\n<p>Reuben Muoka, the NCC\u2019s Director of Public Affairs, on Monday, January 20, 2024, announced a maximum of 50% adjustment to current tariffs,\u00a0 in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The NCC said the adjustment is in line with Section 108 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, adding that the new tariffs would remain within the limits outlined in its 2013 Cost Study.<\/p>\n<p>He also said the adjustments will stick to the 2024 Guidance on Tariff Simplification of the commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe adjustment, capped at a maximum of 50 per cent of current tariffs, though lower than the over 100 per cent requested by some network operators, was arrived at taking into account ongoing industry reforms that will positively influence sustainability,&#8221; the statement reads in part.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese adjustments will remain within the tariff bands stipulated in the 2013 NCC Cost Study, and requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis as is the commission\u2019s standard practice for tariff reviews. It will be implemented in strict adherence to the recently issued NCC Guidance on Tariff Simplification, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTariff rates have remained static since 2013, despite the increasing costs of operation faced by telecom operators.
