{"id":4284,"date":"2025-01-16T20:25:09","date_gmt":"2025-01-16T20:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/?p=4284"},"modified":"2025-01-16T20:25:09","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T20:25:09","slug":"tinubus-tax-reform-bills-get-governors-nod-seek-equitable-resources-sharing-no-increase-in-vat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/index.php\/2025\/01\/16\/tinubus-tax-reform-bills-get-governors-nod-seek-equitable-resources-sharing-no-increase-in-vat\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu&#8217;s tax reform bills get governors&#8217; nod, seek equitable resources sharing, no increase in VAT\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4285\" src=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/NGF-300x127.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"127\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/NGF-300x127.jpg 300w, https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/NGF.jpg 607w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By Amah<br \/>\nKindly share:<\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Governors\u2019 Forum, NGF, on Thursday backed the tax reform bills submitted by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>The NGF made their position known in a communique issued at the end of a meeting held in Abuja with the Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele.<\/p>\n<p>The four tax reform bills, Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill were forwarded\u00a0to the National Assembly for approval by President Tinubu on October 3, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The bills faced mixed reactions.<br \/>\nGovernors, leaders and groups from the northern region voiced their disapproval, claiming the bills were to marginalise and shortchanged them in equal sharing of proceeds from VAT to states.<\/p>\n<p>However, In the communique signed by the NGF Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the governors said they were in support of the bill but proposed an equitable sharing formula for Value Added Tax.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Forum reiterated its strong support for the comprehensive reform of Nigeria\u2019s archaic tax laws.
