{"id":4032,"date":"2025-01-04T15:20:15","date_gmt":"2025-01-04T15:20:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/?p=4032"},"modified":"2025-01-04T15:20:15","modified_gmt":"2025-01-04T15:20:15","slug":"obasanjo-fumes-flays-nnpcl-invitation-to-port-harcourt-refinery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/index.php\/2025\/01\/04\/obasanjo-fumes-flays-nnpcl-invitation-to-port-harcourt-refinery\/","title":{"rendered":"Obasanjo fumes, flays NNPCL invitation to Port Harcourt Refinery\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4033\" src=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/download-4-200x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/download-4-200x300.jpeg 200w, https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/download-4.jpeg 332w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Obasanjo<\/p>\n<p>By Publisher<\/p>\n<p>Kindly share:<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Olusegun Obasanjo, former President, has taken exception to his\u00a0recent invitation to a facility tour of the Port Harcourt Refinery to verify its current operational status.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, had extended the invitation to the gormer president after his comments on<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Channels Television with regard to a piece of advice from Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, about the efficiency of the refinery after it was invited for equity participation.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">SPDC had reportedly raised concerns about corruption, which was an impediment to smooth operations of the refinery.<\/p>\n<p>Obasanjo also expressed doubts about the health of the refinery and accused the NNPCL misleading Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>However, NNPCL, in a statement by its\u00a0Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, said the company was committed to transparency and accountability and I voted the former president\u00a0to a tour of the facility to witness the changes made after it&#8217;s recent rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the recent rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery\u00a0exceeded beyond routine maintenance, adding that the faculty was completely overhauled to meet international standards.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the invitation, Obasanjo said it was totally disrespectful to his person and office.<\/p>\n<p>The former president&#8217;s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, in an interview with Punch,\u00a0said the oil company had not sent any formal invitation to Obasanjo as of Thursday, January 2, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs that the right way to invite a former president of the country? Who says Baba has even seen the statement or read the news? It is a total disrespect for the office of the former president,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsk the NNPCL that as of January 2, have they written to him? Is there any official letter addressed to him, inviting him to the refinery?
