Troops of Joint Task Force South-East, \u201cOperation UDO KA\u201d have killed 13 armed alleged members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB,\u00a0 in the South-east.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, the Spokesman of the task force,\u00a0\u00a0on Monday disclosed in a statement in Enugu the development was\u00a0in furtherance of the troops\u2019 clearance operations to make the South-east safe and peaceful throughout the Yuletide.<\/p>\n

He added that Maj.-Gen. Hassan Dada, the Force Commander, had called on all well-meaning citizens to continue to support the joint task force through the provision intelligence to aid the operation of the troops.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cSecurity is everybody\u2019s business. It is not in the hands of security agencies alone,” he said.\u201cWhen you see something, say something by calling the JTF Operation UDO KA\u2019s toll-free line -193 and press Option 2 \u2013 to speak directly to Headquarters Operation UDO KA.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unuakhalu explained that troops of Sector 1 of the task force on Dec. 21, conducted an ambush operation to hinder kidnappers from operating freely.<\/p>\n

He also revealed that the troops engaged kidnappers in a fight during the operation, killing one while others escaped with gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Unuakhalu said: “Items recovered at the scene were: one AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 17 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition; two cell phones; one power bank; three ATM cards; one wristwatch, a bunch of keys and the sum of N8,900.”<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he also stated that troops of Sector 5 on Dec. 16, carried out a clearance operation in Mbosi and Isseke general area in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra where three IPOB members were also killed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cItems recovered included: one AK-47 rifle, two loaded AK-47 magazines and three Dane guns while a house belonging to one of the irredentist commanders and a shrine used for their fortification were destroyed.\u201cThe gallant troops had earlier recovered five water gel Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and two batteries used for detonating the IEDs while on routine patrol along Roads within Ihiala\u2013Orlu, Lilu, Agba Lilu and Orsumoghu general area in Anambra State.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to him, acting on reliable intelligence from the public<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

troops on Dec. 14,\u00a0 arrested three suspected kidnappers at Itungwa in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia.<\/div>\n
He added that as soon as they got the information, troops quickly mounted a snap checkpoint to apprehend the\u00a0the suspected kidnappers.He said: \u201cThe suspects operating in a stolen tricycle on sighting the troops attempted to make a U-turn but were apprehended.<\/p>\n

\u201cItems recovered included: one AK-47 rifle, one G3 rifle, one locally-made single barrel pistol, 10 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 34 rounds of 5.5mm ammunition, two AK-47 rifle magazines, two G3 rifle magazines and one live cartridge.<\/p>\n
