{"id":3331,"date":"2024-11-13T16:12:12","date_gmt":"2024-11-13T16:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/?p=3331"},"modified":"2024-11-13T16:28:53","modified_gmt":"2024-11-13T16:28:53","slug":"abia-state-state-government-launches-free-compulsory-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/index.php\/2024\/11\/13\/abia-state-state-government-launches-free-compulsory-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Abia State government launches free, compulsory education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3332\" src=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/download-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"170\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Gov Otti<\/p>\n<p>By Publisher<\/p>\n<p>Kindly share:<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Abia State government has declared free and compulsory education for all children resident in the state, regardless of their state of origin, beginning from January 2025.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The policy covers pupils from primary one to Junior Secondary School three, JSS3, in all public schools in the state.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Prince Okey Kanu, the state Commissioner for Information, while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">explained that it had become compulsory for all children in the state to go to school, warning that parents and guardians who fail to comply with the new policy will be prosecuted.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cIn line with the Abia State Child\u2019s Rights Law 2006, it will now be an offence for parents not to send their children and wards to school in Abia State,&#8221; Kanu said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cEducation is free in Abia State up to the end of Junior Secondary School. There is no reason whatsoever why parents will not send their children to school.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cSo, from the first of January 2025 when this policy will fully come into effect, defaulting parents will be prosecuted under that law.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cThis policy is in fulfilment of what the educational sector represents for this government.
