The Abia House of Representatives member, who reportedly assaulted an e-hailing cab driver, Alex Ikwechegh, has apologised for his actions.<\/p>\n

The lawmaker assaulted the Bolt driver,
\nStephen Abuwatseya, when theatter went to deliver a package to him in his Abuja home.<\/p>\n

\n

In his apology, Ikwechegh admitted that his actions were unbecoming of\u00a0a public office holder.<\/p>\n

Ikwechegh\u00a0had also threatened to make the cab driver disappear from Nigeria and nothing would happen.<\/p>\n

A video of the assault, which trended online got many Nigerians angry and they roundly condemned the action of the lawmaker.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The spokespersonn of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, also disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force had waded into the matter.However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, he lawmaker regretted the harm and embarrassment he caused Abuwatseya, as weas his constituents and members of the public.<\/p>\n

Ikwechegh also he was cooperating with the police and pledged his support for the ongoing investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI, Honourable Alex Ikwechegh, Member of the House of Representatives, wish to address a deeply disturbing incident that occurred at my residence recently, the lawmaker said in the statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u00a0“A video has surfaced showing me engaging in unacceptable behavior towards an Uber driver who came to deliver a waybill for me. I am deeply sorry for my actions and acknowledge that they were unacceptable and unbecoming of a public official.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a public servant, I recognize the trust placed in me by my constituents and the Nigerian people. My behavior fell short of the standards expected of me, and for that, I am truly sorry. I understand that my actions have caused harm and embarrassment to the driver, my constituents and the nation at large.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to assure the public that I am fully cooperating with the Nigeria Police investigation into this matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a public servant, I recognise the trust placed in me by my constituents and the Nigerian people. My behavior fell short of the standards expected of me, and for that, I am truly sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
