The\u00a0e-hailing driver who was allegedly assaulted by a member of the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, has\u00a0filed a petition before the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, against the lawmaker.<\/p>\n

Recall that a video had surfaced on social media showing where the lawmaker was assaulting the driver,\u00a0Stephen Abuwatseya,\u00a0for telling him to come out and collect the package he was sent to deliver to the lawmaker.<\/p>\n

Ikwechegh, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, lawmaker, who represents Aba North and South Federal Constituency felt offended by the request, and allegedly threatened\u00a0to make the driver \u201cdisappear\u201d without any repercussions.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
He went further to slap the driver several times for requesting to be paid his delivery fee, asking the driver if he knew who he was talking to.<\/p>\n

Already, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has stepped into the matter and invited the lawmaker\u00a0for questioning according to it’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh.<\/p>\n

In the petition dated October 28, through his lawyer, Marvin Omorogbe of the Deji Adeyanju & Partners law firm, the driver accused the lawmaker of grievous assault, abuse of power, attempted murder and threat to life.<\/div>\n

He called for an investigation into the matter and possible prosecution of the lawmaker.<\/div>\n
\nThe letter read in parts, \u201cOur client is a bolt driver and a hard-working Nigerian citizen. It is our client\u2019s information that at about 9pm on October 27, 2024, he was contracted by a vendor to deliver some food to Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh at his residence in Maitama, Abuja.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegrettably, upon getting to Hon. Ikwechegh\u2019s residence, he requested that our client bring the food into his premises, contrary to the laid down policies regulating bolt drivers in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Our client politely refused the request and urged Hon. Ikwechegh to send someone to pick up the food outside the gate, as is customary with delivery services.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn response to our client\u2019s refusal to take the food into the premises, Hon. Ikwechegh physically assaulted our client, tore his clothes, threatened to make him \u201cdisappear\u201d from Nigeria and repeatedly dared our client to call the Inspector General of Police, while threatening that nothing will happen to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing the assault, Hon. Ikwechegh caused our client to be detained at the Maitama Police Station and his car seized by the Investigative Police Officer. Attached herein, for ease of reference, is a video recording of the incident.<\/p>\n

As a serving member of the Federal House of Representatives, whose primary duties include making laws for the safety of Nigerians, we find Hon. Ikwechegh\u2019s actions were totally distasteful and a threat to our client\u2019s safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt a time when several Nigerians are increasingly being subjected to enforced disappearance by state and non-state actors, we particularly find Hon. Ikwechegh\u2019s threat to cause our client\u2019s disappearance as a national issue that deserves immediate investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is in the light of the foregoing that we kindly request that you investigate the issues raised in this petition with a view to prosecuting Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n

Meanwhile, social media personality Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, VDM, has waded into the matter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Stephen Abuwatseye, the Bolt driver allegedly assaulted by Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives from Abia State, has shared his harrowing experience.<\/p>\n

In a conversation with VDM, Abuwatseye alleged that Ikwechegh threatened to pay fifty million Naira to individuals to kill him, promoting him\u00a0to record the incident.<\/p>\n

The driver, who said he was unwell, also stated that Ikwechegh noting pummeled him multiple times on the chest.<\/div>\n

According to him, Alexander Ikwechegh had told him: “You Common Bolt Driver. You Are a Poor Man. You Have Pride in Your Poverty. Do You Know Who I Am?\u201d<\/div>\n
\n\u201cI said, \u2018So the problem you have now is that a poor man should not speak. I am a Nigerian and should not be treated as a foreigner in this country. I am from Delta State, and I cannot have you treat me like a foreigner in my own country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe honourable member was not detained when he came to the station. He was calling me names. I was mute and sat at an edge. My car is still at the station.<\/p>\n

\u201cI brought snails for him. When I got to his estate gate, I called him and told him I was at the gate. He asked me to give the phone to the security personnel, who later directed me to his house. When I arrived at his house, I saw a man seated close to where I parked my car.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I got out, I greeted him twice, but he didn\u2019t respond. So, I thought he wasn\u2019t the one. The next thing I did was call the number on my phone, and his phone rang.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I heard was, \u2018Are you stupid? Are you mad? Are you a fool? Bring my stuff for me!\u2019 I was not happy with the way he spoke to me because I was just doing my professional job. So, I told him, \u2018Oga, this thing you are saying to me\u2014we have not gotten to this. Normally, I am not even supposed to bring this to you. You are supposed to come and pick it up yourself.\u2019 That was the only thing that got him angry.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, he replied, \u2018You are asking me to come to your car to pick my stuff? Are you okay? Do you know whom you are talking to?\u2019 He hit me on my chest several times. I am not feeling well. He hit me on my chest repeatedly while I just looked at him. But when he became more of a threat to me, I had to record him because I didn\u2019t go there with the intention of fighting him. If I had gone there with a different motive, I would have recorded him from the beginning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started recording him when he became a threat and said he would pay fifty million naira, and they would \u2018delete\u2019 me. He was calling me all sorts of names. He claimed he would pay 50 million naira to people, and they would kill me, and nobody would say anything.
