{"id":3014,"date":"2024-10-26T11:08:56","date_gmt":"2024-10-26T11:08:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/?p=3014"},"modified":"2024-10-26T11:08:56","modified_gmt":"2024-10-26T11:08:56","slug":"popular-enugu-musician-gunned-down-by-policeman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/index.php\/2024\/10\/26\/popular-enugu-musician-gunned-down-by-policeman\/","title":{"rendered":"Popular Enugu musician gunned down by policeman\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3015\" src=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/download-1-1-300x164.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/download-1-1-300x164.jpg 300w, https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/download-1-1.jpg 303w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By Amah<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Kindly share:<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">A popular Ogene musician, who was identified as Igbo Jah, was on Friday night shit dead by a trigger-happy policeman attached to the Anti-Cult Unit of the Enugu State Police Command.<\/p>\n<p>Following the killing\u00a0 of the musician for yet unknown reasons, angry protesting youths set bonfires at the Obiagu and Asata areas of the city.<\/p>\n<p>Igbo Jah\u00a0was said to have attended an event at the anti-cult office before he was killed.<\/p>\n<p>He was rushed to a nearby hospital but the doctor on duty confirmed him dead on arrival.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe,\u00a0 confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nHe statement read: \u201cA male Police Inspector serving in the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Enugu State Police Command has been arrested and detained for the alleged murder of a male traditional Ogene musician, Okezie Chikezie Mba, popularly known as Igbo-Jah,&#8221; Ndukwe said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe incident occurred around 8:10 p.m. on October 25, 2024, at the Tactical Squad\u2019s Headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe musician was reportedly leaving the Squad\u2019s Headquarters after a friendly visit when, for reasons yet to be ascertained, the police officer fired his rifle, hitting the victim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the attending doctor. His body has been deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Ndukwe added that the state Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID to conduct a full-scale investigation that will facilitate prompt and appropriate disciplinary actions against the police officer,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Commissioner empathises and consoles the victim\u2019s family, friends, and associates, describing the unfortunate incident as unacceptable.
