{"id":2919,"date":"2024-10-22T10:40:39","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T10:40:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/?p=2919"},"modified":"2024-10-22T10:40:39","modified_gmt":"2024-10-22T10:40:39","slug":"air-peace-boss-allen-onyema-cleared-of-fraud-charges-by-us-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/index.php\/2024\/10\/22\/air-peace-boss-allen-onyema-cleared-of-fraud-charges-by-us-court\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Peace boss, Allen Onyema, cleared of fraud charges by US court\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2920\" src=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/download-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"176\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Onyema<\/p>\n<p>By Publisher<\/p>\n<p>Kindly share:<\/p>\n<p>Allen Onyema, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of Nigeria&#8217;s leading airline, Air Peace, has been cleared of business fraud allegations by an Atlanta district court, after three years of investigation by five agencies of the US government.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 indictment suit was filed by Northern District of Georgia\u2019s Attorney.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">However, the court held that it did not find any evidence of loss to any bank but\u00a0 ordered Ebony Mayfield, a former Springfield Aviation Company staff, to\u00a0\u00a0pay $4000 in fines as well as serve probation.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nMayfield had pleaded guilty to one count, reportedly because of the complex nature of the Letters of Credit transactions in a jury trial.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Augustine Alegeh &amp; Co.,\u00a0Onyema\u2019s counsel, debunked the stories, which were published in Nigeria, alleging the\u00a0 payments of $20,000 to\u00a0Mayfield for fraudulent activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur clients never took loans or credit from any American Bank and Mayfield was never paid the sum of $20,000 at any time to commit any fraud, as it is being peddled in some quarters,&#8221; the legal counsel said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no loss of money or any damage whatsoever to any third party. The American government admitted in Court that no bank suffered any financial loss in the matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMayfield, like other Springfield Aviation Company Inc. staff, was only paid her bi-weekly salary and\/or allowances.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cOur clients maintain their innocence in the matter and state that all steps taken in respect of the Letters of Credit were taken in good faith and with legitimate funds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the aircraft involved were brought into Nigeria and utilised in the operations of Air Peace Limited. There was no victim. There was no loss of funds to any person and there was no criminal intent whatsoever.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur client\u2019s position has been reviewed by various Law Enforcement Agencies in Nigeria and no evidence of criminality has been established against them.
