Godswill Akpabio, the Senate\u00a0 President\u00a0 has refuted a report trending on social media with regard to his possible impeachment.<\/div>\n

Akpabio disclosed this at plenary on Wednesday, saying: “It has just been brought to my attention by one of us that there is fake news trending on the social media that the DSS surrounded the national assembly with possible impeachment of principal officers.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cWe are here, sitting peacefully, doing our work, oblivious to the mischief happening behind us.<\/div>\n

\n
\u201cThis is what we pass through on a daily basis. It\u2019s either they use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to inject something to turn it around in order to drive traffic. I understand that they are being paid by YouTube.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cBut I hope the public is aware that this is total fake news and that the chamber is very stable and that there is no issue of impeachment,\u201d Akpabio said.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\nThereafter, the Senate President referred the report to the Committee on Special Duties for further investigation and gave them 24 hours within which to complete the investigation and submit the report of their finding.<\/div>\n
\nIt was gathered that viral reports had emerged, claiming that the Department of State Services, DSS, operatives had on Wednesday invaded the National Assembly complex amid a plot to impeach the Senate President.<\/p>\n

This underscores speculations that some aggrieved northern senators, who\u00a0 reportedly unhappy with President Bola Tinubu, may be plotting resurrect an earlier plot to remove Akpabio from office.<\/p>\n
