The South-East Electricity Consumers Association, SEECA, has rejected the proposed migration of South-east electricity consumers to Band A on Nov. 1.<\/p>\n

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, had had on October 9, announced through the company’s Acting Managing Director of EEDC, Dr Ernest Mupwaya,\u00a0 its\u00a0intention to migrate the South-east customers from lower tariff bands to Band A.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
\u00a0Declaring open the company\u2019s Customer Service Week,\u00a0 Mupwaya had said the move was to enable the electricity users to enjoy a minimum of 20 hours of electricity supply daily.<\/div>\n
\nHowever, SEECA l in a statement jointly signed by the National Chairman of SEECA, Rev. Okechukwu Obioha, and its National Secretary, Mr Ogubuike Ibeagi, on Monday in\u00a0Enugu, rejected the move and said it would be resisted via protests.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The statement disclosed that the decision to protest was taken during an extraordinary meeting of the Consultative Assembly of SEECA on Sunday.<\/p>\n

According to SEECA, EEDC is yet to comply with the order of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, to refund South-east electricity consumers the N11.86 billion owed them for overbilling between January and September, 2023.<\/p>\n

The clarified that the intended protes would not involve sensitising traditional rulers and Presidents-General of communities to desist from payments for electricity and remain in darkness.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur resolution this day is that from Nov. 1, there will be an indefinite strike by all electricity consumers in the Southeast for \u2018banding\u2019 of electricity consumers in the South-East,” the statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe strike includes no prepaid metre to all estimated billed consumers, bulk and Community billing, and no payment; we demand for a uniform tariff to all electricity consumers in the south-east.\u2019\u2019<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
