{"id":2821,"date":"2024-10-14T19:31:48","date_gmt":"2024-10-14T19:31:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/?p=2821"},"modified":"2024-10-14T19:32:48","modified_gmt":"2024-10-14T19:32:48","slug":"2821","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/index.php\/2024\/10\/14\/2821\/","title":{"rendered":"Tears flow in Ibadan as truck crushes 6, injures 5 tricycle passengers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2822\" src=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IMG-20241014-WA0024-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IMG-20241014-WA0024-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IMG-20241014-WA0024-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/panoramanews.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IMG-20241014-WA0024.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By Publisher<\/p>\n<p>Kindly share:<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Tears flowed ceaselessly in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Monday, following a\u00a0 fatal accident that involved two trucks and two tricycles.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The accident occurred at Oke Eleshin, Amuloko on Akanran Road, in the Ona Ara Local Government Area.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The trucks conveying tiles and drinks, respectively, suffered a brake failure and rammed into two tricycles, also known as\u00a0 Keke, killing six people and injuring five others.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Among the injured were two primary school children and another\u00a0 pupil whose mother died on the spot.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Some of the wounded victims taken to the nearby Amuloko City Hospital for treatment immediately and discharged, while others with severe injuries were admitted.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">A staff of the Oyo Road Transport Maintenance Agency disclosed that the ill-fated truck had brake failure, as it descended the slope of the road and the driver\u00a0 lost control and in the process crushed one of the tricycles.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to a witness: &#8220;When the trailer lost control, it crushed a tricycle popularly called Keke NAPEP. Another lorry conveying soft drinks was coming from behind it and tried to avoid hitting the trailer in front, and in the process hit and crushed another Keke NAPEP. We learnt that six persons died while five persons sustained injuries. They have all been conveyed away from here.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The driver of the truck carrying tiles was said to have fled the scene. Sympathisers blamed him for the multiple accidents and opined that he should have divertef the truck to a nearby ditch instead of hitting the oncoming tricycle.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Raji Wale, the Managing Director of the Amuloko City Hospital,\u00a0 said four injured victims were rushed to his hospital.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cFour patients were taken to his hospital. The accident occurred in the early hours of today ( Monday). Six victims were brought here with varying degrees of injury. Some were taken to other hospitals. We were able to absorb the ones brought here. Two have been treated as out-patient victims and they have been stabilized and they have left,&#8221; he said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cTwo kids have been treated and they are downstairs. One of them, I was told, was in Keke NAPEP with his mother. The mother died. The other two with severe injuries have been admitted and are being treated.
