The daughter of jailed RnB singer, R.Kelly, 26-year old Buku Abi, has narrated how her father sexually assaulted her when she was younger.<\/p>\n
In her documentary about her childhood, Abi said she was sexually abused by her
\nfather who is presently serving jail term for sexual assault on minors among other sexual offences.<\/p>\n
In the two-episode documentary titled Karma: A Daughter\u2019s Journey, which was premiered on Friday October 11, Abi accused her father of sexually abusing her as a child when she was between eight and nine year old, adding she first reported the incident to her mother Andrea in 2009 when she clocked 10-years<\/p>\n
She said before she told her mother, she was initially too scared to tell anyone about her father’s actions for fear for her life.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was my everything. For a long time, I didn\u2019t even want to believe that it happened. I didn\u2019t know that even if he was a bad person he would do something to me.I was too scared to tell anybody. I was too scared to tell my mom,” she said in the documentary.<\/p>\n
She commended the government for sending her father to jail saying jail was a \u201cwell-suited place\u201d for him to be based on her \u201cpersonal experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI really feel like that one millisecond completely just changed my whole life and changed who I was as a person and changed the sparkle I had and the light I used to carry.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter I told my mom, I didn\u2019t go over there anymore; my brother Robert and sister Jaah, we didn\u2019t go over there anymore. And even up until now, I struggle with it a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n
Narrating how the abuse took place, Abi said: “I just remember waking up to him touching me and I didn\u2019t know what to do, so I just kind of laid there, and I pretended to be asleep.”<\/p>\n
She added that after telling her mother, she reported to the police and a complaint was filed against her father but the police couldn’t prosecute him because she ‘waited too long to report the matter which shattered her life.<\/p>\n
R. Kelly is serving a 20-years jail term for child pornography, sex trafficking and enticement of minors for sex. He was sentenced in February 2023 and will be due for release in 2045.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
