Philip Ogunnaike, a suspected serial killer, who was arrested in Ogun State, has asked for the death penalty for himself and his co-travelers in crime.<\/p>\n
In a post shared by the spokesperson of the state police command, Omolola Odutola, on her X page, Ogunnaike said he was lured into the evil act by one Danjuma and others whom he alleged initiated him into the proscribed Eiye confraternity cult.<\/p>\n
According to him:\u201cI don\u2019t want anything other than the police to arrest Danjuma and others, who initiated me into the Eiye cult. If we get to court, they should not bother hearing our case; they should just go and kill us.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut before they kill us, they should give me food so that I can eat before they kill me because those that I killed may just have finished eating before I killed them,\u201d 29-year-old Ogunaike, who spoke in Yoruba, said.<\/p>\n
The suspect was nabbed on Friday in connection with the killing of about three young girls in the state, among whom were Mary Ogunyemi, 23, Abigail Dina, 22, and Akinsanya Habibat, 18.<\/p>\n
Ogunnaike confessed to killing the three victims and leaving their bodies in the forest and took the operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit to the different locations where the three victims were murdered.<\/p>\n
Ogunnaike and his runaway accomplice were accused of luring his victims into the forest where he would tie them up, strangle them, and then abandon their bodies after stealing from them.<\/p>\n
Investigations revealed that about two years ago, the suspect had escaped from the Ibara Correctional Centre while being taken to the Magistrate Court in Isabo for an armed robbery case.<\/p>\n
According to the police statement: \u201cOn July 3, 2024, at approximately 10 a.m., the late Mary Ogunyemi, a 23-year-old lady, was sent by her mother, Mrs. Ogunyemi Esther, to buy fruits at Adatan from Asero Estate. She was accompanied by the suspect, Philip.<\/p>\n

\u201cPhilip, a male suspect, was staying with someone in the same compound as the victim. He lured her to a nearby bush in Asero Estate and called in another accomplice to assist him in the kidnapping.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe victim was bound with rope and robbed of an iPhone S. Philip Ogunnaike and his accomplice jointly strangled her to death. The two criminals later contacted the victim\u2019s mother by phone and demanded a ransom of seventeen thousand naira.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe duo abandoned the corpse of the victim inside the bush and fled to Badagry, Lagos State, to sell off the stolen iPhone S at the rate of N8,000.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ogunnaike also allegedly killed his employer\u2019s 18-year-old daughter Akinsanya, at the Mile 6 area of Abeokuta, on August 30, 2024, around 5 pm.<\/p>\n
He had allegedly abducted the teenager, raped her, and then strangled her to death with a rope on her father\u2019s farm in the community.<\/p>\n
According to the police: \u201cThe father received a phone call on his daughter Habibat Akinsanya\u2019s phone, informing him that she, aged 18, had been kidnapped and that he needed to pay a ransom of N1m for her release.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe victim\u2019s father subsequently paid N30,000 to the Moniepoint account number given by the kidnapper. Later, her body was discovered on her father\u2019s farmland in Obasa village, Mile 6, Abeokuta, Ogun State, along with her PoS machine found beside her.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe suspect admitted that the victim\u2019s father employed him and was working on the farm when he saw the victim passing by. He lured her to the farm and then tied her legs with a rope.\u201d<\/p>\n
Abiodun Alamutu, the state Police Commissioner, also disclosed that the police were hunting for Ogunnaike\u2019s accomplices.<\/p>\n
