Residents of Bende Local Government Area have been left reeling in shock by the beheading of an elderly couple.<\/p>\n
The state police command has confirmed the killing of the old man, Mr Jacob Udo, and his wife, Mrs. Comfort Udo.<\/p>\n
Confirming the heinous act\u00a0 in a statement\u00a0 titled \u201cRe: The Alleged Murder of a Couple in Bende,\u201d on Thursday, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson of the command said: \u201cYes, we received the report yesterday at Bende Divisional Headquarters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe crime scene has been visited, exhibits recovered, and the bodies deposited at the mortuary. Investigation is ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n
The elderly couple, who were both traders, were on Tuesday reportedly killed in their home in Etiti Ulo, Bende, by yet to be identified assailants.<\/p>\n
Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, in whose constituency the ungodly act was committed, has condemned the gruesome act, describing it as \u201chorrific and senseless.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a statement released through Livinus Nwabughiogu, his Chief Press Secretary, Kalu condoled with the victims\u2019 families, and urged the state government and law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the crime and fish out the perpetrators.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe brutal murder of Mr. Jacob Udo and his wife is an affront to humanity. No grievance or dispute can justify such violence,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
\u201cI urge the authorities to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice. We must all stand together against acts of violence and extremism while promoting tolerance and peaceful resolution of conflicts.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile we understand the pain and emotions surrounding this tragedy, we must avoid actions that will escalate tensions. Violence will only breed further division and suffering.\u201d<\/p>\n
