By Publisher<\/span><\/p>\n Kindly share:<\/span><\/p>\n The All Progressives Congress, APC, has widened its lead in the Edo governorship election held on Saturday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n So far, the party has won 16 out of the 18 local government areas declared, leading with a massive over 48000 votes ahead of its closest rival, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.<\/span><\/p>\n This was according to Faruq Kuta, a professor and vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, the Returning Officer, who announced the results at the INEC headquarters in Benin city on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n The INEC is yet to announce results from the remaining two more local government areas but Kuta<\/span> has announced a recess.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He said the collation of the remaining two local government areas would commence by 5 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n Details of announced LG results:<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00a0Esan Central<\/span><\/p>\n Akoko Edo<\/span><\/p>\n Egor<\/span><\/p>\n Esan South-East<\/span><\/p>\n Ovia North-East<\/span><\/p>\n Uhunmwonde<\/span><\/p>\n Owan West<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0Esan West<\/span><\/p>\n Igueben<\/span><\/p>\n Esan North East<\/span><\/p>\n Ovia South West<\/span><\/p>\n Orhionmwon<\/span><\/p>\n Owan East<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0Etsako East<\/span><\/p>\n Etsako Central<\/span><\/p>\n Etsako West.<\/span><\/p>\n From the results announced, the Labour Party, LP, is obviously not in the reckoning, coming a distant third, with less than 12000 votes.<\/span><\/p>\n The Edo gubernatorial election was relatively peaceful although there were some incidents of vote buying, ballot snatching, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had arrested some suspected vote buyers in the state while Dudu Orumen, a PDP chieftain, alleged that some ballot boxes were snatched.<\/span><\/p>\n The Governor Obaseki had also stormed the INEC headquarters in the state to register his displeasure over how the Electoral processes were being handled.<\/span><\/p>\n However, pundits, who had predicted a straight fight between the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress, have been proven right.<\/span><\/p>\n There were acrimonious and unsavoury exchanges between the two parties in the lead up to the election, leading to the description of the exercise as a \u2018do or die\u2019 affair by Governor Godwin Obaseki, who complained of underhand dealings by the APC.<\/span><\/p>\n In one of such encounters, former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, now an APC senator, mocked Obaseki for being childless.<\/span><\/p>\n However, Obaseki\u2019s wife responded to the tasteless comments by explaining that she was not barren but had had miscarriages.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Voters on queue By Publisher Kindly share: The All Progressives Congress, APC, has widened its lead in the Edo governorship…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":2509,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2,3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2511","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-politics"],"yoast_head":"\n
