A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has set aside the Kano Emirate Council Law used in dethroning Ado Bayero and other emirs in the state.<\/p>\n
Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman in his ruling on Thursday, June 29, 2024, set aside the action of the Kano State Government and ordered the parties to maintain the status quo.<\/p>\n
He faulted all steps taken by the Kano State government in repealing the Kano Emirates Council Law.<\/p>\n
The Kano State House of Assembly had repealed the old law, which was promulgated under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.<\/p>\n
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf promptly implemented it, dethroning Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano, and restoring the former emir, Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi to the throne.<\/p>\n
Yusuf also reversed the creation of four emirates, Bichi, Rano Karaye, and Gaya by the now repealed law.<\/p>\n
Aminu Babba Danagundi, a kingmaker, and Sarkin Dawaki Babba in the former emirate council, kicked against the law, challenging it in court.<\/p>\n
He had prayed the court through his counsel,\u00a0 Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), to upturn the law and declare it null and void.<\/p>\n
