\u00a0<\/span>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has debunked allegations that it shared N54 billion out of the forfeited assets of Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.<\/p>\n

Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, in a statement on Wednesday, described the allegations as infantile and insisted that no official of the commission was involved in sharing of the forfeited assets, adding that the EFCC Act 2004 and the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Act 2022 does not create no room for \u201csharing\u201d of forfeited assets.<\/span><\/p>\n

The statement read: \u201cThe EFCC denounces as false the report by the online news platform, Sahara Reporters, alleging that N54 billion forfeited by some associates of a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, was \u2018shared\u2019 among certain ministers and aides of President Bola Tinubu, in collaboration with EFCC officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo official of the Commission was or has ever been involved in the \u2018sharing\u2019 of any proceeds of forfeited assets. The notion of \u2018sharing of proceeds of forfeited assets\u2019 is strange to the Commission.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe sensational report which was promoted ostensibly to scandalise the agencies mentioned, betrays the author\u2019s ignorance of the existing asset recovery and management framework. There is no \u2018platform\u2019 for the \u2018sharing of forfeited assets\u2019; the notion itself being infantile.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe truth is, it simply did not happen! Dishing fiction to the public as news is the height of irresponsibility and EFCC will not tolerate any attempt to defame its hard-earned reputation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
