A fresh leadership crisis has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after rival factions traded accusations over claims that the party had uploaded the names of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n
The faction led by its self-acclaimed National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, announced on Sunday that it had successfully uploaded the credentials of the party’s candidates to the INEC nomination portal.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Bala said the move demonstrated the faction’s commitment to protecting the interests of the party’s founding members and providing Nigerians with credible, competent and people-centred leadership. He, however, did not disclose the identities of the candidates allegedly submitted.<\/p>\n
But the recognised leadership of the ADC swiftly dismissed the claim as “a blatant lie.” In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party insisted that INEC could not have granted portal access or nomination codes to a leadership it does not recognise, stressing that the electoral commission does not issue two nomination codes to the same political party.<\/p>\n
The party challenged the Bala faction to produce evidence of the alleged upload, arguing that if such a process had taken place, proof should be readily available. It also called on INEC to investigate what it described as the alleged forgery and unauthorised use of documents purportedly originating from the commission, warning that such actions could undermine public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.<\/p>\n
The conflicting claims highlight the deepening leadership tussle within the ADC as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 elections, with attention now turning to INEC for clarification on the authenticity of the competing assertions.<\/p>\n
The leadership crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) intensified after a coalition of prominent opposition politicians adopted the party as a platform to challenge the ruling APC in the 2027 general elections. The coalition subsequently installed former Senate President David Mark as Interim National Chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as Interim National Secretary.<\/p>\n

However, a rival group led by Nafiu Bala Gombe rejected the arrangement, insisting it remains the authentic leadership of the party. The dispute has since sparked a series of legal and public relations battles, with both factions laying claim to the party’s leadership and legitimacy.<\/p>\n
