Kindly share:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The Presidency has revealed that eight suspected kidnappers involved in the abduction of pupils and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been arrested, while several others were killed during a coordinated security operation that led to the victims’ rescue.<\/p>\n The suspects are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where they are expected to face further investigation and prosecution.<\/p>\n The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the disclosure on Friday and also dismissed reports suggesting that the Federal Government negotiated with the kidnappers or released any detained terrorist in exchange for the victims’ freedom.<\/p>\n According to Onanuga, there was no form of concession or prisoner swap during the operation.<\/p>\n “During the rescue operation, eight of the kidnappers were arrested and are now in DSS custody, while some of them were neutralised,” he stated in a post on his verified X account.<\/p>\n He further disclosed that one of the notorious terrorist kingpins whose release was allegedly demanded by the kidnappers remains in detention and is currently facing prosecution for terrorism-related offences.<\/p>\n “There was no quid pro quo in the rescue as one of the terrorists, a kingpin, that the kidnappers demanded his release, is being prosecuted for his atrocities. The security agencies will give a full account soon,” Onanuga added.<\/p>\n He assured Nigerians that security agencies would provide a comprehensive briefing on the operation in the coming days.<\/p>\n The rescue marks the end of a traumatic ordeal that lasted more than 50 days for the victims, who were seized when heavily armed gunmen stormed schools and surrounding communities in Orire Local Government Area.
