The political momentum gathering around the senatorial ambition of Attorney Charles Chibuike Onyirimba received a major boost at the weekend as the Imo North Elders Council (IMEC) threw its weight behind his bid for the Senate, declaring him “the best man” to champion the socio-economic and infrastructural renaissance of Okigwe Zone.<\/p>\n
The endorsement came at the end of an enlarged meeting of the Council held at Protea Hotels, Owerri, where leaders and stakeholders from the six local government areas that make up Imo North Senatorial District unanimously welcomed Onyirimba’s entry into the 2027 Senate race.<\/p>\n
In what appears to be another significant milestone in the aspirant’s growing acceptance across the political landscape of Okigwe Zone, the Council not only endorsed his candidacy but also pledged to mobilise “maximum support and bulk votes” for him during the election in February 2027.<\/p>\n
The statement, jointly signed by IMEC President, Surveyor Samuel Aguiyi, and Comrade Chinedu Offor, described Onyirimba as a man whose contributions to democratic growth and public development have earned him a place in the hearts of many people across the district.<\/p>\n
According to the Council, Onyirimba’s “invaluable contributions towards deepening democracy in Imo State and Nigeria cannot be overemphasised,” adding that his decision to seek election into the Senate is “a true reflection of the yearning of the majority of the people of the six local government areas that constitute Imo North Senatorial District, otherwise known as Okigwe Zone.”<\/p>\n
The elders further noted that Onyirimba has remained steadfast in his commitment to societal advancement, stressing that he has consistently demonstrated an uncommon passion for community development and nation-building.<\/p>\n
“Attorney Charles Onyirimba has remained unwavering in his commitment to societal building and development,” the Council stated.<\/p>\n
The group expressed confidence that Onyirimba possesses the legislative competence, vision, and leadership capacity required to transform the fortunes of the district at the federal level.<\/p>\n
It affirmed its belief in his “ability and capacity to make impactful laws that will foster youth, men and women empowerment in Okigwe Zone,” while also strengthening democratic institutions and promoting good governance in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The endorsement comes at a time when political consultations and alignments are intensifying across Imo North, with many observers noting that Onyirimba’s campaign has continued to gain traction among community leaders, professionals, youths, women groups and grassroots stakeholders throughout the zone.<\/p>\n
For the elders, the choice is clear.<\/p>\n
They described Onyirimba as “the best brain for the legislative job” and commended the leadership of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) for entrusting him with its ticket for the district.<\/p>\n
The Council’s endorsement is expected to resonate strongly across the six local government areas of Okigwe, Onuimo, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano, Ihitte-Uboma and Obowo, where conversations about quality representation, development deficits and the future direction of the zone have increasingly dominated political discourse.<\/p>\n
Beyond politics, the Council used the occasion to call on eligible citizens to participate actively in the ongoing voter registration exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n
In a passionate appeal to the electorate, the group reminded Nigerians that democracy can only thrive when citizens exercise their constitutional rights.<\/p>\n
“Citizens of this country should ensure they register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs),” the statement urged.<\/p>\n
The Council emphasised that the PVC remains “the only weapon and power vested on citizens by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to effect a change in government and vote credible people into leadership positions at all levels.”<\/p>\n
With endorsements continuing to emerge from various quarters and support structures steadily taking shape across the district, the latest declaration by the Imo North Elders Council is likely to further reinforce perceptions that Onyirimba’s Senate ambition is no longer merely a personal political project, but a movement increasingly finding expression in the aspirations of many across Okigwe Zone.<\/p>\n
