Attorney Charles Onyirimba has commended the decision of former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a bold recalibration that could redraw Nigeria’s political map ahead of future elections.
In a strongly worded reaction issued on Monday, Onyirimba framed the development as more than a routine defection, calling it “a strategic migration with the potential to ignite a credible third-force movement and disrupt the long-standing duopoly that has defined Nigeria’s politics.”
“Senator Kwankwaso’s entry into the ADC is not an act of political convenience; it is a statement of intent,” Onyirimba said. “It reflects a growing recognition among visionary leaders that Nigeria cannot continue on the same political trajectory and expect different outcomes.”
He noted that Kwankwaso’s enduring grassroots network, ideological clarity, and national visibility position him as a catalyst for institutional strengthening within the ADC, a party he said is increasingly being viewed as a viable platform for progressive coalition-building.
“Kwankwaso brings with him not just a loyal following but a disciplined political machinery and a history of governance that resonates with a significant segment of Nigerians. His presence injects energy, structure, and strategic depth into the ADC,” Onyirimba stated.
The legal luminary further argued that the move could trigger a wave of defections and alignments, particularly among politicians disillusioned with what he described as “recycled leadership patterns and shrinking ideological spaces” within dominant parties.
According to the Senatorial hopeful for Okigwe Zone: “This is how political renaissances begin, not with noise, but with decisive steps taken by individuals willing to challenge the status quo. The ADC, with this development, now stands at the threshold of national relevance.”
Onyirimba also urged stakeholders within the ADC to seize the moment by fostering internal cohesion, strengthening party institutions, and presenting a clear policy direction that speaks to Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic realities.
He concluded by expressing confidence that Kwankwaso’s move would resonate beyond partisan lines, inspiring a broader reawakening among citizens and political actors alike.
“In moments like this, nations are offered a choice, to remain trapped in familiar cycles or to embrace the courage of reinvention. Kwankwaso has chosen the latter. History will judge the significance of that choice,” Onyirimba declared.
