In a move that is set to reshape the political chessboard ahead of the 2027 general elections, Adamu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Adamu, who previously served as a commissioner in Adamawa State, formally announced his resignation from the PDP on Thursday. Hours later, he completed his registration with the ADC, the party through which his father is expected to seek the presidency in 2027.
Political watchers say the move signals not just a personal alignment but a broader strategic positioning for the Abubakar family within Nigeria’s shifting political landscape.
In a post on X Thursday night, Adamu urged his supporters to follow suit, calling on Nigerians “to register with the ADC as we work together to advance good governance and national development.”
