The Lagos State Government has ordered the immediate closure of the Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, citing persistent environmental infractions and defiance of sanitation regulations.
The action was announced on Sunday by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via a post on đť•Ź, where he disclosed that the market was sealed following repeated observations of indiscriminate waste dumping, obstruction of road medians, and illegal street trading.
Located along the busy Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, Ladipo Market has long been flagged by environmental enforcement teams for activities that compromise public safety and urban order.
Officials said the latest closure was executed by the Lagos taskforce as part of the state’s renewed clampdown on environmental abuses.
According to the government, the enforcement aligns with its broader commitment to safeguarding public health, ensuring cleanliness, and restoring order across the metropolis.
“Lagos State Government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions; indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway and illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos,” Wahab said in the post.
Authorities noted that the market had previously been shut for similar violations and was only reopened after assurances of compliance with approved waste management and sanitation standards.
The latest development, officials stressed, underscores the state’s resolve to enforce environmental laws without exception.
The government further warned that all markets and commercial clusters across Lagos must strictly adhere to environmental regulations, adding that any breach capable of endangering lives or disrupting public order would attract swift sanctions.
