The All Progressives Congress (APC) has abruptly restructured the leadership of its National Convention Central Coordination Committee, dropping Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as chairman and replacing him with former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari.

The reshuffle comes just days after Uzodimma was publicly unveiled to lead the committee and barely weeks before the party’s National Convention slated for March 27-28, 2026, signaling internal recalibration at the highest levels of the ruling party.

The decision was announced on Friday in an official statement by the APC National Secretary, Surajudeen Basiru, who said the move followed “further consultations” with party leaders and national stakeholders.

“In further consultation with the leadership and national stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Central Coordination Committee for the National Convention has been reconstituted. Sub-committees will be constituted and announced in due course,” the statement read.

Under the new structure, Uzodimma has been reassigned as Treasurer of the Convention Committee, while Masari takes over as chairman.

In a further shake-up, the APC expanded the committee from 73 to 90 members, bringing in additional figures to deepen political spread and strengthen planning. Senator Barry Mpigi is among the newly inducted members, alongside other senior party figures.

Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, was named Vice Chairman I, while Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, will serve as Vice Chairman II. Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, remains Secretary of the committee.

Party insiders describe the reconstitution as a strategic move to tighten control, smoothen coordination, and avert internal friction ahead of a convention expected to elect a new National Working Committee (NWC).

The sudden demotion of Uzodimma, coming so soon after his appointment, highlights the delicate power balancing underway within the APC as it fine-tunes its internal machinery ahead of future electoral contests.
