Justice Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, the Chief Judge of Rivers State, has blocked the ongoing move by the State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu, over allegations s of gross misconduct.
The lawmakers had approached the Chief Judge, asking him to set up panel to probe the alleged misconduct as required by the constitution.
However, Justice Amadi rejected the request, saying his hands are tied by existing court orders, which barred him From entertaining any communication or taking further steps with regard to the Impeachment process by the lawmakers.
Justice Amadi’s rejection was stated in a letter, dated January 20, and addressed to Martins Amaewhule, the Speaker of the Assembly.
Chief Judge explained that the orders were served on his office On January 16, 2026, adding that
the judiciary must be guided by constitutional principles and the rule of law.
He noted that all public authorities are bound to obey court orders that are still in force, regardless of their perception.
