A Rivers State High Court has issued an interim order, halting all steps aimed at impeaching Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, effectively freezing the process for now.
In a ruling delivered by Justice F. A. Fiberesima sitting in Oyibo Local Government Area, the court restrained the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, from receiving, processing, or acting on any communication from the Rivers State House of Assembly connected to the impeachment bid.
The decision followed two separate suits instituted by Governor Fubara and his deputy, marked Suit Nos. OYHC/7/CS/2026 and OYHC/6/CS/2026.
Justice Fiberesima also barred the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Martin Amaewhule, alongside 32 other lawmakers and officials, including the Clerk of the House, from taking any action whatsoever in furtherance of the impeachment proceedings.
Specifically, the court ordered that the Chief Judge must not, for a period of seven days, receive, transmit, or act on any correspondence, relating to the setting up of a panel to investigate allegations of misconduct against the governor or his deputy.
The court granted permission for the interim orders to be served on all the defendants and adjourned the matter to January 23, 2026, for further proceedings.
