The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested Dr. Chris Ngige, the former Minister of Labour and Employment.

According to Fred Chukwulobe, his former aide, Ngige was not kidnapped as being rumoured.

Chukwulobe said he had received several calls over claims that the former Anambra State governor was abducted.

However, he clarified that Ngige was arrested by the EFCC and assisting investigators.

“Ngige is with the EFCC. He was not abducted or kidnapped,” he said.

The former Anambra governor has been under intense scrutiny from anti-graft agencies.

He was drilled by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, in 2024 over alleged contract irregularities at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, an agency that was under his ministry.

The former minister’s convoy was recently attacked by armed men in Anambra State, leaving two injured while one passer-by was killed.

However, Ngige was not present at the time of the attack.
