Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment by an Abuja Federal High Court.
This follows his conviction on all seven counts of terrorism filed against him by Justice James Omotosho.
Omotosho had described Kanu as an interni terrorist and anarchy-minded whose dealings had resulted in bloodshed and destabilisation in the South-east region.
The judge accused Kanu of purporting to be a defender of his people, but actually endangered lives and national security.
According to the judge: “The court finds that the defendant, Nnamdi Kanu, is an international terrorist and must be treated accordingly.”
He declared that the prosecution successfully proved its case against Kanu by adducing credible and sufficient evidence, adding that Kanu failed to controvert their submissions by opting not to defend himself.
