Bandits on Monday, November 17, 2025, attacked Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing the vice principal and abducting 25 female students.
Another teacher in the school was also shot but he survived.
CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, confirmed the abduction in a statement he issued in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
According to Abubakar, a gang of armed bandits, invaded the school at about 4 a.m., wielding sophisticated weapons and shooting sporadically.
He further disclosed that the police tactical units deployed in the school engaged the attackers in a gun duel but
“unfortunately, the bandits had already scaled the school fence and abducted 25 students from their hostel to an unknown destination.
“Similarly, one Hassan Makuku, was shot dead, while one Ali Shehu, sustained an injury on his right hand,” he said.
Abubakar added that additional police tactical units, military personnel, and vigilantes had been deployed to the area and now combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forests, to rescue the students and nab the perpetrators.
Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, Abubakar said, restated the command’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents of the state.
He urged the public to remain calm, vigilant, and to continue supporting security operations to ensure the maintenance of peace and stability.
