A prompt action by Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF), North East Operation Hadin Kai, on Tuesday saved seventy-four members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, from what could been a kidnap by Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.
The incident occurred along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno State.
A statement by Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of the JTF, disclosed that the rescue operation took place at about 9:05 p.m. when the vehicles, conveying the corps members broke down near a known kidnapping hotspot.
It added that the troops acted swiftly after a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system monitored by the military detected suspicious movement involving three buses in the area.
“On arrival, troops discovered 74 NYSC members—36 males and 38 females—stranded after their vehicles developed mechanical faults. The troops immediately rescued them to prevent a likely abduction attempt by Boko Haram or ISWAP elements operating in the area,” the statement read.
The rescued corps members are currently being accommodated at the Buratai military base, pending further arrangements for their safe movement to their destinations.
The JTF restated that it was committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens as well as maintaining security all over the North East region.
