President Bola Tinubu has shaken up the Armed Forces of Nigeria with changes in it’s hierarchy in a bid to give Nigeria’s nation’s security fresh impetus.
Announcing the changes in a statement, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, said the new appointments take immediate effect.
The new arrangement relieved General Christopher Musa of his position as the Chief of Defence Staff. He was replaced by General Olufemi Oluyede.
Also, Major-General W. Shaibu has emerged as the Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke comes on board as the new Chief of Air Staff.
Completing the shakeup is Rear Admiral I. Abbas who was appointed as the Chief of Naval Staff.
However, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, remains in his position.
“President Bola Tinubu has made changes in the hierarchy of the Service Chiefs in furtherance of the efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria to strengthen the national security architecture.
“The President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede to replace General Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff.

“The new Chief of Army Staff is Major-General W. Shaibu. Air Vice Marshall S.K Aneke is Chief of Air Staff while Rear Admiral I. Abbas is the new Chief of Naval Staff. Chief of Defence Intelligence Major-General E.A.P Undiendeye retains his position,” the statement read in part.
Tinubu, who expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their dedicated service and patriotic leadership, urged the new appointees to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces.
