Four armed robbery suspects have fallen into the dragnet of the Lagos State Police Command.
The suspects were said to have been terrorising motorists across Lagos and neighbouring states but eventually came to the end of the road when police operatives arrested them at their hideout in the Igando area of the state.
Abimbola Adebisi, the command’s spokesperson, SP confirmed the arrest in a Friday statement lin Lagos, adding that the suspects were nabbed during a major operation against violent crimes.
She noted that the gangsters, aged between 34 and 46, were arrested during intelligence-led operations by the command’s Tactical Squads between 1 a.m. on Wednesday and 3 a.m. on Friday.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to robbing several vehicle owners at gunpoint and were also linked to multiple operations in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Edo states.
One pump-action shotgun, a Beretta pistol, 48 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 46 live cartridges, a cutlass, assorted charms, and four stolen vehicles were among the items recovered from the suspects.
Adebisi further disclosed that the vehicles comprised a Toyota Sienna, two Lexus ES350s, and a Toyota Corolla, adding that preliminary investigations showed the gang posed as passengers, then attacked unsuspecting drivers mid-transit to steal their vehicles and valuables at gunpoint.
The police spokesperson clarified that the suspects were arrested, following weeks of coordinated surveillance and intelligence gathering across several states and also noted that a manhunt was on to arrest fleeing members of the gang.
Mr Olohundare Jimoh, the Commissioner of Police, lauded the Tactical Squads for their professionalism during the operation and reassured Lagos residents on the police commitment to dismantling the command’s determination to rid the state of all criminal networks and ensure public safety.
