A group of angry indigenes of Lagos State have stage a protest against some Yoruba from other states, and accused them of usurping their traditional titles and positions in the state.
The protesters claimed that majority of those creating political tension, land disputes, and social conflicts in Lagos are no n natives of the state, adding that they migrated to the state Yorubas from other parts of the South-west.
“They come to our land, occupy major positions, even claim traditional titles such as Obas, and in the end, bring a bad name to us, the real indigenes of Lagos, None of them created Lagos,” one of the protesters said.
Furthermore, the indigenes claimed that over the years, non Lagosians infiltrated Lagos’ traditional and political structures, pushed aside the ancestral families and exploited the city’s economic opportunities to the detriment of the original natives.
They urged the state government and relevant authorities to protect the rights and cultural identity of Omo Eko, adding that the weight of migration and political manipulation must not be allowed to obliterate their heritage.
