Celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has again entered the Guinness World Records, as she cooked the world’s largest pot of Jollof rice in Lagos.
The feat, weighing an astonishing 4,000 kilograms, was achieved Friday night at the Gino World Jollof Festival, which drew an unprecedented crowd of over 20,000 registered guests and a culinary team of over 300 people.
This underscored the scale and cultural pride surrounding the attempt.
Using a custom-made 6×6 meter pot designed and produced locally, Baci and her team prepared an incredible 22,619 liters of Nigerian Jollof rice. The recipe required 250 bags of rice, 1,000 kilograms of tomato paste, 600 kilograms of onions, 750 kilograms of vegetable oil, along with fresh cayenne pepper, paprika, thyme, basil, garlic, ginger, and other spices that gave the dish its signature flavor.
The project took more than a year to plan and was designed not only to showcase Nigeria’s culinary excellence but also to inspire unity. As part of the initiative, portions of the record-breaking Jollof will be served to more than 5,000 street children in Lagos.
Hilda Baci, who rose to global fame in 2023 after breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), has once again captured the imagination of Nigerians and the world.
The atmosphere at the venue was electric, with thousands of supporters forcing their way through the gates to witness the milestone. While the massive turnout raised safety concerns and fears of a possible stampede, many in attendance described the moment as a celebration of national pride and admiration for Baci’s achievements.
Congratulatory messages have been pouring in for Baci and her team, with many hailing the record as a victory for Nigeria’s cultural identity and culinary heritage.
