Operatives of the Anambra Police Command, on Wednesday, confirmed rescuing a 30-year-okd suspect from mob action.
The suspect, who was simply identified as allegedly killed a 25-year-old and hid the victim’s remains inside a refrigerator in Okpoko.
According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson of the command, the suspect had already been beaten unconscious before the intervention of the operatives on September 2 and rushed him to the hospital for treatment where he is currently under armed guard.
“The operatives visited the scene of the murder and discovered the decomposed body parts of the victim hidden inside a refrigerator,” Ikenga said.
“The remains were later evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” the command said.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for a thorough probe.
“We will ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law,” the Commissioner assured.
